FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

“And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after supper, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” (Luke 22:19-20).

Like all the Sacraments, the Eucharist is an encounter with Jesus Christ. The Eucharist is the body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ; it is Christ himself. As such, “the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life.” In our Parish we respect that parents are the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith. In Baptism, parents accept the responsibility of training their children in the practice of the Faith. As a Church we have the role of supporting you as parents to fulfil this calling.
Each year our First Holy Communion programme runs from September until May. There are three elements to the programme:
• a parents’ meeting once a month which distributes materials for parents to work on at home with their child. This monthly session also offers a space for the parents themselves to reflect on their faith.
• a monthly class for the children with their catechists.
• a special parish Mass celebrated each month.
Enrolment for the programme is open from May until July prior to the September start.

Adult Preparation and/or Questions
We also prepare adults and older children for this Sacrament. Please contact Daniel (Catechetical Coordinator) for more information.
